Solution
Hydrophobic and Hydrophilic region
(i) Hydrophilic region
The polar part of the detergent which attracts the water molecule. It is water loving part. Presence of OH group at this end, enables the formation of intermolecular H-bonding with water.
(ii) Hydrophobic region
The nonpolar part of the detergent which resist the water. It is water repelling part.
Hydrophilic and Hydrophobic parts in the molecule
Hydrophilic and Hydrophobic parts in the molecule is shown below-
Functional group present
The functional groups present in the molecule are :
1. Ether
2. Primary Alcoholic group
Alcohol group can be recognized by the presence of −OH group present in the given organic compound and on the other hand, the ether group can be identified by the presence of R−O−R bonds where R represents the alkyl group present in the compound.
