Question

For a body in uniform circular motion, (if we are rotating a stone using our hand tied by a thread ) which all real forces act ? The centripetal force will be because of the tension in the string, but which is the real force that causes the circular motion as centripetal (tension) force acts inwards . so which Real force causes such a motion( as centrifugal force is only imaginary )

Solution

Consider the circular motion of a stone tied to a string and rotated. Here centripetal force due to tension acts inwards.Force acting inwards doesn't means the object should move inwards. Here the velocity of the object is instantaneously changing. At every moment, it's direction is tangential and hence the velocity keeps changing. It is that velocity and the centrifugal force that makes the body move constantly in a circle. No other forces involved.
