We know,
Torque about an axis is defined as the component of torque about any point lying on axis, along the axis.

Torque about any point lying on axis will be having two components, one along the axis which is torque about the axis and other perpendicular to the axis. The resultant of both the components will not be equal to that of one component and hence statement 2 is incorrect.

Statement 1 is correct and statement 2 is incorrect.
