Question

For a given circuit, calculate
(i) equivalent resistance between the points A and C.
(ii) current in the circuit
(iii) potential difference between A and B

Solution

i ) Equivalent resistance between the points A and C
The resistance of AB and BC arm are in series so,
R=2 Ω
Now this resistance is in parallel with the 2 Ω,
Rt=2×22+2=1 Ω
ii ) Current in the circuit
I=VR=21=2 A
iii ) Potential difference between A and B
As current divides equally, current in upper branch is 1 A,
so, Potential difference between AB is,
V=IR=1×1=1 V
