Carbonate hardness=3.5×103geq

[if NCH is present sodium alkalinity will be absent i.e., NaHCO3 absent]

=3.5×103×50gl as CaCO3
=175mg/L as CaCO3

Non carbonate hardness = Total hardness - Carbonate hardness

Total hardness
=5×50mg/L as CaCO3
[total hardness is due to Ca2+and Mg2+]

=250mg/L as CaCO3

NCH=250175=75mg/L as CaCO3
