Kinetic energy


The kinetic energy of the pendulum bob increases as the bob approaches the equilibrium position and the kinetic energy decreases as the bob moves further away from the equilibrium position.

When the pendulum is in its extreme position, its potential energy is maximum and its kinetic energy is zero, as it is at its maximum height and has no velocity. As the bob reaches its equlibrium position, its velocity increases and its height decreases. Hence, its kinetic energy increases whereas its potential energy decreases.
