Question

For a weak electrolyte molar conductance in dilute solution increases sharply as its concentration in solution is decreased. Give reason.

Solution

1.The variation of molar conductance with dilution can be explained on the basis of degree of dissociation with dilution and not over concentration.

2.As the number of ions furnished by an electrolyte in solution depends upon the degree of dissociation with dilution.

3. With the increase in dilution, the degree of dissociation increases and as a result molar conductance increases.
