Question

for acetaldehyde and acetone which has more boiling point

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,

Acetone is a ketone and acetaldehyde is aldehyde . Boiling point of ketone is higher as compared to aldehyde.

In Ketone carbonyl carbon is attached to two alkyl groups having +I effect (electron donating effect) which makes the -C=O more polar so acetone has more boiling point as compared to acetaldehyde.
