Question

For an inline slider-crank mechanism, the length of the crank ans connecting rod are 3 m and 4m, respectively. At the instant when the connecting rod is perpendicular to the crank, if the velocity of the slider is 1 m/s, the magnitude of angular velocity (upto 3 decimal points accuracy) of the crank is radian/s.

Solution

Here VB=1 m/s, ωcrank=?
Let us draw the I-centres

Applying angular velocity theorem at I24
ω2(I24I12)=V4=VB=1
ω2(I24I12)=1

θ=tan1(4/3)=53.13010o
α=90oθ=36.869o
cosα=3I12I24
I12I24=3cos36.869o=3.7499 meter
Now, ω2(3.7499)=1
ω2=13.7499=0.266 rad/s
