For following circuit, what is the value of total resistance between X and Y?

Current always passes through the wire with least resistance. So, after passing through the first resistance along X terminals it goes to the first resistor along yterminals, as given in the following diagrams.

So, the two resistors act as if they are in series.
Total resistance between X and y is:-
Rnet=R+R
=2R
