Let's take an example of rounding off to the nearest tenths.

Here, the last digit to be kept is in the tenth column.

The first digit to be removed is located one place right to the last digit to be removed.

Here, the first digit to be removed is in the hundredth column, i.e., 5.

We know that if the first digit is 5 or more, add 1 to the last digit.

Here, first digit is 5.

Add 1 to the last digit, i.e., 2+1=3

Round off number is 9.7.
