Question

For the commutation circuit shown below, with C = 10 μF and L = 8 μH. The initial voltage across capacitor is 220 V and load current is constant at 200 A. The value of time required to turn off main thyristor after the auxiliary thyristor is turned on (in μsec) will be________

Solution

Time required to turn-off main thyristor after Auxiliary thyristor is turned on

(tcm)=πLC+LC.sin1(I0IP)

Ip=VSCL=20010×1068×106=245.969 A

tcm=(π80×1012)+80×1012sin1(200245.967)

=(π×8.944×106)+8.944×106sin1(0.813)×π180

tcm=36.59 μsec
