On the number line, the negative integers are on the left of the integer 0. The negative integer which is close to the integer 0 is greater than the other integer which is far away from the integer 0. In the given pair -5 is close to 0 on the number line than -18. Also, the integer which is on right is greater than the other. Hence, -18 is smaller than -5.
