Question

For the preparation of the following salts - give a balanced equation in each case.

(iv) Lead (II) chloride from lead carbonate [give two equations]

Open in App
Solution

Preparation of lead chloride from lead carbonate involves two steps. That is, at first, lead carbonate is treated with nitric acid. The chemical equation for the reaction is,
PbCO3+2NHO3Pb(NO3)2+H2O+CO2

In the second step, lead nitrate formed is treated with hydrochloric acid to give lead chloride. The chemical equation for the reaction is,

Pb(NO3)2+2HClPbCl2+2HNO3
