Question

For the reaction 2A+BC, the rate of formation of C is 0.25 mol L1hr1. What is the rate of disappearance of A and B?

Open in App
Solution

2A+BC
Rate of formation of C=d[C]dt=0.25molL1hr1
Rate of disappearance of A=12d[A]dt
(12 is because 2 is coefficient of A)
Rate of disappearance of B=d[B]dt
Rate of disappearance of A & B = Rate of formation of B
12d[A]dt=d[B]dt=d[C]dt=0.25molL1hr1
Rate of disappearance of A=2×0.25molL1hr1
=0.50molL1hr1
Rate of disappearance of B=0.25molL1hr1
