Question

For two molecules of glucose, glycolysis uses and produces ATP molecules

Open in App
Solution

Glycolysis

The pathway of the breakdown of glucose into pyruvic acid is termed as glycolysis. This pathway is a step-wise process in which several molecules are released like 4 ATPs, 2 ADPs, water and 2 (NADH + H+ ) when one glucose molecule undergoes glycolysis.

ATP used

Number of ATP used per glucose molecule = 2
Number of ATP used for 2 glucose molecule
=2×2=4

ATP produced

Number of ATP produced per glucose molecule = 4
Number of ATP produced for 2 glucose molecule
=4×2=8

Final answer: (A) 4 and 8
