Solution

The correct option is B
The formula for lateral displacement is,
d=tsin(ir)cos r ... (i)

From Snell's law:

sin isin r=μ ...(ii)

for very small angle i, r will be also very small.
sin ii,sin(ir)ir, cos r1

Thus from Eq. (i),

d=t(ir)1=t(ir)

d=ti[1ri]

from Eq. (ii) ri=1μ

d=ti[11μ]

or, for the given slab and angle of incidence,
it resembles y=mx equation.

d vs i graph will be a straight line passing from origin.

Hence, option (b) is the correct answer.
