For which of these would you use a histogram to show the data?
(a) The number of letters for different areas in a postman's bag.
(b) The height of competitors in an athletics meet.
(c) The number of cassettes produced by 5 companies.
(d) The number of passengers boarding trains from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at a station.
Give reasons for each.
Since, Histogram is a graphical representation of data, if data, represented in the manner of class interval (Grouped data).
Therefore, for cases (b) and (d), we would use a histogram to show the data, because in these cases, data can be divided into class -intervals or groups.
In case(b), the heights of all the competitors can be divided into groups. For example, 4.5 feet to 5.5 feet can be group 1, 5.5 feet to 6.5 feet can be group 2 and so on.
In case(d), the groups can be formed on the basis of time interval. for example, passengers boarding trains from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. can be group 1 and so on.
