If m is the mass of a body, and a is the acceleration of the body, then the force acting on the body is given as

F=ma

The unit of mass is kg and that of acceleration is ms-2.

Therefore the unit of force is kgms-2 which is also denoted as newton or N.

Hence, the SI unit of force is kgms-2 or N.
