Forests are our lifeline for the following reasons-​

i) Forests provide home and protection to ​

wildlife. ​

ii) They purify air and provide us with ​

oxygen for breathing, hence, are also ​

known as green lungs.​

iii) They provide us with wood, fuel, ​

clothing (fibre), shelter, medicines, ​

paper, rubber, fruits, vegetables, spices ​

and many other useful things.​

iv) They regulate earth’s temperature and ​

water cycle.​

v) They prevent soil erosion by water and ​

wind. Roots of the trees bind the soil ​

together preventing soil erosion.
