Forests are our lifeline for the following reasons-
i) Forests provide home and protection to
wildlife.
ii) They purify air and provide us with
oxygen for breathing, hence, are also
known as green lungs.
iii) They provide us with wood, fuel,
clothing (fibre), shelter, medicines,
paper, rubber, fruits, vegetables, spices
and many other useful things.
iv) They regulate earth’s temperature and
water cycle.
v) They prevent soil erosion by water and
wind. Roots of the trees bind the soil
together preventing soil erosion.
