Form the linear equations for the following problems

i) The number of skirts is two less than twice the number of pants purchased moreover, the number of skirts is four times the number of pants purchased.

ii) The number of girls is $4$ more than the number of boys.

iii) $5$ pencils and $7$ pens together cost $\text{Rs.}50$ where as $7$ pencils and $5$ pens together cost $\text{Rs.}46$.

Answer 1

i.) let the number of skirts is $x$ and the number of pants is $y$

$\Rightarrow x=2y-2,x=4y$

ii.)let the number of boys is $x$ and the number of girls is $y$

$\Rightarrow y=4+x$

iii.) let the cost of $1$ pencil is $x$ and the cost of $1$ pen is $y$

$\Rightarrow 5x+7y=\text{Rs.}50$ and $7x+5y=\text{Rs.}46$
