Question

Formulate an expression for angular momentum in terms of angular velocity and hence define moment of inertia

Open in App
Solution

Dear student
We know that

Angular momentum is given by,

L = mv *r

= (mr2)(v/r)

= Iω

Where, I = moment of inertia = mr2
Thus, moment of inertia is the product of the masses of body to square of its distance from the considered axis.

ω = v/r = angular velocity.
