Solution

The correct option is A sedimentary rocks
Fossils are any preserved remains or impressions of organisms that existed in a past geological age. These include the whole body of the extinct organism, remains of plants and animals with inorganic deposits, remains of bones or even moulds, casts and footprints on stratified rocks. Study of fossils excavated from different strata indicates the geological period in which the organisms existed. The deeper the sedimentary layer is, the older the fossil would be.
Fossils are generally found in sedimentary rocks as they are formed by the accumulation and deposition of minerals and other inorganic materials on the buried carcasses of living creatures. Weathering rocks on the Earth’s surface gives sediments that get arranged in various layers due to geographical processes. If the organism’s body is buried under these layers, they can be preserved as fossils.

Igneous rocks are not used for fossil study as they are usually formed by cooling of molten magma. The temperature and heat of the molten magma is so high that it incinerates the organisms rather than preserving them as fossils.

Metamorphic rock is formed by the transformation of existing rock under high heat and pressure that generally destroys any underlying fossils present.

Hence, fossils are usually not found in igneous and metamorphic rocks whereas they develop in sedimentary rocks.
