Four arrangements to measure temperature of ice in beaker with laboratory thermometer are shown in Figure(a, b, c and d). Which one of them shows the correct arrangement for accurate measurement of temperature?
For accurate measurement of temperature, a laboratory thermometer must be kept upright and the bulb should be completely surrounded by the substance of which the temperature has to be measured. Also, the bulb should not touch the surface of the container. In the first case, thermometer is not touching the beaker and it is dipped in the water. So it is an idle condition to measure the temperature. So, the answer is (a).
