Four main types of oxides?
Oxide is a chemical compound that contains at least one oxygen and one other element in its chemical formula. Oxide itself is a dianion of oxygen (). Metal oxide typically contains an anion of oxygen in the oxidation state of −2.
The classification of oxides is as follows-
Acidic oxide- Acidic oxide is an oxide that when combined with water gives acid.
Basic oxide- Basic oxide is an oxide that when combined with water gives a base.
Amphoteric oxides- Metal oxides that react with both acids as well as bases to produce salts and water that oxide is known as amphoteric oxides.
Neutral oxide- These oxides are those oxides that are neither acidic nor basic.
