Question

Four men lift a 250 kg box to a height of 1 m and hold it without raising or lowering it. How much work is done by the men in lifting the box? (g=10ms-2)

Solution

Step 1: Given data

Mass of box, m=250kg

Height, h=1m

Acceleration due to gravity, g=10ms-2

Step 2: Formula used

W=F×h[whereW=work,F=Force,h=height]

Step 3: Calculating work done by men in lifting the box

As we know that force,F=m×g[wherem=mass,g=accelerationduetogravity]

Using the above formulas,

W=F×hW=m×g×hW=250×10×1W=2500J

Therefore, the work done by the men in lifting the box is 2500J
