Solution

The correct option is C (0.5, 0.3) m

As shown in diagram, D is the origin, so assuming DC as xaxis and DA as yaxis.

From such orientation, we get

m1=1 kg, (x1,y1)=(0,1) m
m2=2 kg, (x2,y2)=(1,1) m
m3=3 kg, (x3,y3)=(1,0) m
m4=4 kg, (x4,y4)=(0,0)

So, the xcoordinates of the COM is given by

xCOM=m1x1+m2x2+m3x3+m4x4m1+m2+m3+m4

xCOM=(1)(0)+2(1)+3(1)+4(0)1+2+3+4

xCOM=510=0.5 m

Similarly,

yCOM=m1y1+m2y2+m3y3+m4y4m1+m2+m3+m4

yCOM=(1)(1)+2(1)+3(0)+4(0)1+2+3+4

yCOM=310=0.3 m

(xCOM,yCOM)=(0.5,0.3) m

Therefore, option (C) is correct.
