Question

Four plastic bottles of different shapes and sizes are joined together as shown in the figure. Water is poured in the bottle kept at the rightmost end.
Discuss whether the water level in the bottle in which water is poured will rise first or the water level in all the bottles will rise simultaneously.

Solution

Water level in all the bottles will rise simultaneously. This is because the liquid pressure in the connecting pipe will be the same in all the bottles. We know that to maintain the same liquid pressure in the pipe the height of water above the pipe in all the bottles will be the same at every instant of time. Therefore as soon as the water is poured in the rightmost bottle, the level of water will rise in all the bottles equally and simultaneously.
