Four test tubes with ice, cold water, normal water, and hot water were taken. A piece of magnesium metal was dropped in each of these test tubes. In which test tube the reaction will be faster and vigorous?
There are many factors which affect the rate of the reaction. Temperature is one of the factors. The energy and speed of the molecules of reactant increases as the temperature increases. This further increases the number of molecules with threshold energy leading to an increase the number of effective collisions. Hence the rate of the reaction increases. Therefore, the reaction will be faster and vigorous in a test tube containing hot water.
