let current age of rahim be 'x'
let current age of family be 'y'
according to question
x-4 = 4× (y-4)
x-4 = 4y -16
x-4y = -12.......... (1)

and
x+2 = 2 (y-2)
x+2 = 2y -4
x = 2y -2 ......(2)
put the value of x from (2) in (1)
2y-2-4y= -12
-2y = -10
y = 5
put the value of y in (2)
x = 2×5 - 2
= 10 - 2
x= 8
