Fresh grapes contain 90% water by weight while dried grapes contain 20% water by weight. What is the weight of dry grapes available from 20 kg of fresh grapes?
Option C. 2.5 kg is correct.
Water content of fresh grapes = 90% by weight of fresh grapes.
Water content of dried grapes= 20% by weight of dry grapes.
Weight of fresh grapes taken= 20 kg
Let the weight of the dried grapes be x kg.
Now, since, water content of fresh grapes is 90% by weight,
∴ Grape content in fresh fruits = (100%−90%)×20=2 kg
Also,
Grape content in dried fruits = (100%−20%)×x=0.8x kg
Since, dried grapes are derived/obtained from fresh grapes only, therefore, the grape content will remain same in both.
∴0.8x=20
⇒x=20×10080=2.5 kg
Hence, the weight of dry grapes available from 20 kg of fresh grapes is 2.5 kg
