Fresh milk is boiled before consumption while processed milk stored in packets can be consumed without boiling. Give reasons for the following.

Boiling of milk:

  1. Fresh milk needs to be boiled to eliminate harmful bacteria that might be present in them.
  2. These bacteria might weaken the immune system and have a negative impact on the health of pregnant women and children.
  3. Whereas, processed milk need not be boiled as it is already pasteurized.
  4. Repeated boiling can deplete essential nutrients.
  5. Milk is a rich source of vitamin D and excessive boiling can reduce the vitamin concentration in it and results in less calcium absorption.
