From a circular card sheet of radius 14 cm, two circles of radius 3.5 cm and a rectangle of length 3 cm and breadth 1cm are removed. Find the area of the remaining sheet. (Takeπ=227)

Solution

The radius of circular card sheet is 14cm. The area of the sheet is,

A=πr2

=227×(14)2

=616cm2

The area of the circle of radius 3.5cm is,

A=πr2

=227×(3.5)2

=38.5cm2

Since, it is given that two circles are removed, then,

A=2×38.5

=77cm2

The area of the rectangle with length 3cm and breadth 1cm is,

A=l×b

=3×1

=3cm2

The remaining area of the circle will be,

A=616(77+3)

=536cm2
