Question

From a height habove the ground, a ball is projected horizontally with speed v , and at the same time another ball is dropped from same point. Which ball reaches the ground first? Which ball is having higher speed while reaching the ground?

Solution

  1. Both the balls will reach the ground simultaneously because horizontal velocity has no effect on the motion in the vertical direction.
  2. Both the balls will reach the ground at different speeds because the ball which is projected horizontally has both horizontal and vertical velocity while the ball which is dropped only has vertical velocity. Hence, both the balls will reach the ground simultaneously and the ball that is projected horizontally will have more speed than the other ball while reaching the ground.
