From each corner of a square of side 4cm, a quadrant of a circle of radius 1 cm is cut and also a circle of diameter 2 cm is cut as shown in the figure. Find the area of the remaining portion of the square. [2 MARKS]

Two circles of radius 1cm exist in the square

Area of the square
=42=16 cm2

Area of a circle
=π(1)2

Required area = Area of square - Area of two circles

=422×π(1)2

=166.28

=9.72 cm2
