In a right angled triangle, a2+b2=h2, where a and b are the lengths of the legs and c is the length of the hypotenuse. This is called Pythagoras Theorem.

OD=8,OC=x,CD= hypotenuse side =17

Therefore, 82+OC2=172

28964= OC2

OC2 =225

Taking square root on both sides, we get

OC=15.
