When a glacier erodes the steep walls of a mountain, it may form a bowl-shaped depression. This is known as a Cirque or a Corrie. When two cirques are formed in a mountain and the walls of the depression are joined together back to back, it forms sharp and narrow ridges, known as Aretes.
