Every house had a courtyard.

The Harappan cities followed a systematic town planning. There was a central courtyard around which the rooms, kitchen, water well and bathroom were arranged. The houses would be 1-2 storeyed and there were stairs for the movement. They had wide roads, huge public baths and a drainage system.
