From the grouped frequency table, we can see 2 students got marks between 12.5 to 17.5 and 22 students got marks between 17.5 and 22.5.
Thus the number of people who have got marks less than 22.5 will include both those students who have got marks between 12.5 and 17.5 and those who have got marks between 17.5 and 22.5. This is nothing but 2 + 22 = 24.
