Blood vessels:

  1. Blood vessels are tube-like structures that transport blood from the heart to the tissues and tissues to the heart.
  2. They play an inevitable role in the circulatory system.
  3. The blood vessels are a characteristic of the closed circulatory system.
  4. The blood vessels have three major types namely - arteries, veins, and capillaries.

(i) Hepatic vein:

  1. The veins usually carry deoxygenated blood (except the pulmonary vein) from other organs to the heart.
  2. The deoxygenated blood is transported from the liver to the inferior vena cava to deliver it to the right atrium by a vein called the hepatic vein.

(ii) Hepatic portal vein:

  1. The portal veins transport blood from one capillary to another.
  2. The portal vein that drains blood from the stomach and the intestine and fills the liver is called the hepatic portal vein.
