Open in App
Solution

The process of froth floatation depends on the wettability of both ore particles and gangue. It is used for the concentration of sulphide ores.

Crushed ore along with gangue is poured into a mixture of oil and water.

Pressurised air is the passed into the mixture causing agitation and formation of froth which wets the ore.

The ore floats with the froth whereas the gangue particles are wetted by water and settle down.
