Question

Fruits detached from a tree fall down due to the force of gravity. We know that a force arises due to the interaction between two objects. Name the objects interacting in this case.

Solution

Gravity:

  1. Gravity or the earth's gravitational force is an attractive force between the earth and all bodies surrounding it.
  2. The force of gravity is proportional to the product of the mass of the bodies and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them.
  3. The gravitational form is defined by the form, F=GM1M2r2, where G is the gravitational constant, M1 and M2 are the mass of the two bodies (earth is considered here as a body) and r is the distance between them.

Interacting objects:

  1. The objects interacting in this situation are the earth and all objects surrounding it.
  2. The earth’s gravitational force is always exerted on the tree and the fruits and when the fruit is detached from the tree it falls down due to gravity.

So, the objects interacting due to gravity are the earth and fruits.
