Question

Function of DCT

Open in App
Solution

DCT--Distal convoluted tubule.
It is a part of the nephron.present in the cortex and it comes after ascending limb of Henles loop.
Here, it helps in maintaining the Ph of the body fluids by eliminating H+ ions or HCO3- ions based on the Ph.
If the body fluids are more acidic, they will secrete H+ ions in to filtrate. If the body fluids are too basic , they will secrete HCO3- ions in to filtrate and absorb H+ ions from filtrate.
This way they can regulate Ph of the body fluids.
DCT allso cal absorb water and Na ions based on the body requirement. If the body requires water and Na ions, ADH and aldosterone are produced which absorb water and Na ions respectiely.
So these are the functions of DCT.
