In a myelinated neuron,the nerve impulse is faster. Becauseaxon is covered by the myelin sheath. But in non-myelinated neuron,the nerve impulse is slower. Heremyelin sheath is absent Myelin is considered an electrical insulator. Its purpose is to speed the transmission of nerve impulse. Myelin sheath is lipoproteinaceous substance that envelopes the vertebrates axons whose size is bigger than .5mcm in diameter.
