Solution
The correct option is D Double fertilization
After the pollen tube releases two male gametes in the embryo sac, one male gamete (the first male gamete) which is too near to egg fuses with egg nucleus and this phenomenon is known as fertilisation or syngamy. During syngamy, zygote is formed.
The other male gamete (the second male gamete) migrates towards the secondary nucleus and fuses with it. This phenomenon is known as triple fusion and results in the formation of a triploid primary endosperm mother cell.
This simultaneous occurrence of two fusion events, one sperm fuses with egg cell and the other sperm fuses with two polar nuclei, i.e. syngamy and double fertilisation together, is known as double fertilisation.
