Question
Gases diffuse very fast. Why ?
Open in App
Solution
Diffusion
is the process of
intermixing particles of different types of matter
(solids, liquids, and gases).
Diffusion causes the particles to move from a region of high concentration to a lower concentration.
Gases show the maximum rate of diffusion while solids show the least rate of diffusion.
Due to the large space among the particles of gases and weak intermolecular attraction, gases show diffusion at a fast rate.
On increasing the temperature or supplying heat, the particles of gases gain energy and start moving with more velocity.
Hence, increasing temperature increases the rate of diffusion.
