Solution

Dissolution of a gas depends on how water and gas molecules interact with each other:

  • Oxygen: Oxygen is dissolved in the water by means of air or by means of by-product of plants (growing in water) during respiration.
  • Carbon dioxide: Due to the attraction of water molecule with the polar regions of CO2, it gets dissolved in water.
  • Ammonia: Like and like dissolves, similarly ammonia which is polar dissolves in water as water is also polar.

Thus, gases like oxygen, carbon-dioxide and ammonia dissolve well in water.
