Gastric glands secretes hydrochloric acid to kill microorganisms which come along the food. Then, why this acid does not damage the stomach wall ?

Gastric juice contains hydrochloric acid and pepsin and it creates a acidic environment in the body and may damage the stomach wall. To protect the walls of stomach, mucous membrane line the stomach that secretes mucus, it is slimy and slippery secretion that protects the cell linings from the highly acidic environment within it.
