Question

Gene assort independently from one another. How many genotype can be produced if the number of heterozygous gene pairs is four?

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,

We know that each gene pair consists of two alleles. Here, gene assorts independently from each other this means that genes are not linked.
Let us suppose, the four heterozygous gene pairs are Aa, Bb, Cc and Dd.
Number of genotypes produced will be (4)2 = 16

So, 16 genotypes can be produced from four heterozygous gene pairs.
