  1. Electron Affinity-The modification in energy of a neutral atom (in the gaseous phase) when one electron is added to produce a negative ion is identified as electron affinity. In other words, the chance of a neutral atom receiving an electron.
  2. Atomic size declines along the period as we move left to right as the number of electrons rises and the nuclear force increases and thus chance of addition of electron increases as we move from left to right because with the addition of electron it tries to attain stability.
  3. EA values of third period are large than second period because of the presence of d - subshell and large size, they can accommodate the incoming electron without repulsions.
  4. Example: Cl has high EA than F .
